Jordan Henderson appeared to have been infuriated by teammate Bertrand Traore in Ajax’s 4-0 smashing UEFA Europa League win over Besiktas.

Francesco Farioli’s side extended their
unbeaten streak to five matches across all competitions with the victory over Besiktas on Thursday, September 26, 2024.

Why Did Jordan Henderson Confront Teammate Bertrand Traore?

However, Ajax captain Henderson was not happy with Traore and he had a go at the winger for giving away possession cheaply.

Ajax were leading by 3 goals at the time, but Jordan Henderson still felt the need to indicate his unhappiness with the display of the Burkinabe.

Traore also looked enraged by the actions of the former Liverpool man, with the Burkina Faso international apparently responding with some stern words of his own.

Henderson, who was clearly unhappy with Bertrand Traore as aforementioned, had to be pushed away from the 29-year-old by two other teammates – Devyne Rensch and then Kian Fitz-Jim.

Things were almost boiling over between the pair as they surprisingly got into a heated argument before they were pulled apart.

Ajax Vs Besiktas

Fitz-Jim netted the opener for Ajax in the 31st minute, before Mika Godts doubled their lead 9 minutes before the hour mark.

Kenneth Taylor extended Francesco Farioli’s side’s lead further in the 55th minute before Mika Godts secured his brace 17 minutes before the end of normal time.

Jordan Henderson Speaks On Incident Involving Him And Bertrand Traore

During a post-match interview after the thrilling win for the hosts, Jordan Henderson played down the incident involving him and Traore.

The English midfielder saw his reaction as “normal” and shared that he acted in that manner to keep his teammates “on their toes”.

The 34-year-old said: “My moment with Traore? If you watch me play over the years, that’s pretty normal, to be honest.

“Intimidating? It’s football! We want to win, we want to improve. If we concede a goal there is still much time left. Sometimes you will have words with each other, but it’s good; it keeps everybody on their toes.”

Henderson played the entirety of the UEFA Europa League clash against Besiktas, and he was impressive on the night, touching the ball 70 times and completing 79 percent of his 58 passes.

Jordan Henderson, who joined Ajax from Al-Ettifaq in January 2024, has in the past also emphasized the need to set and maintain high standards following the Dutch side’s 5th-place in the Eredivisie last season.

Their 5th-place finish in the 2023/24 campaign is the club’s worst final position since 2000.
