Johnny Evans has signed a new contract extension with Manchester United after an impressive 2023–24 campaign.

With the Old Trafford outfit desperate to avoid the pitfalls of last season, Evans’ new contract was envisaged.

The Northern Ireland defender, who originally began his football career with the Old Trafford outfit, re-signed for the club last term from Leicester City.

Under the auspices of Erik ten Hag, Evans joined United, signing a one-year contract that was set to expire at the end of the campaign.

In a season the club grappled with a grinding injury crisis, especially in the defensive department, Evans offered Erik ten Hag a lot of leverage, making 30 appearances in all competitions for the club.

With the exit of Raphael and the continuing uncertainty over the fitness of Tyrell Malacia, including Luke Shaw, it was evident Erik ten Hag would stick with the Northern Ireland football veteran to boost the club’s defensive options ahead of the next campaign.

In a report shared on the club’s website, United confirmed, Evans has been tied down to a new one-year contract. The club’s statement, confirming the new contract extension for the player reads;

“Manchester United is delighted to confirm that Jonny Evans has signed a new one-year contract with the club, keeping him here until June 2025.”

Reacting to the new deal, the 36-year-old said he is delighted to sign a new contract with Man United and considers it a privilege to play for the club while thanking the fans for their immense support.

He said: “I am delighted to have extended my contract at Manchester United for another season.

“To play for this great club and feel the support from our incredible fans is always a privilege.”

The new contract will see the veteran right-back extend his spell with Manchester United to 11 seasons.
