    A fan wager a bet that Manchester United player Jesse Lingard will not score any goals this season. He was close to winning his bet until this happened at the last minutes of the season.

    Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard’s 98th-minute goal against Leicester on Sunday came at a very high price for an unlucky punter. The football punter placed a £10 bet before the start of the 2019/2020 season that the forward would not get either an assist or a goal in the season for Manchester United.

    The punter was to get a cash windfall of £670 as Jesse Lingard had failed to get a goal or an assist the whole of the 2019/20 campaign due to poor form and injuries.

    Strangely, the forward was brought into the Reds 2-0 win at King Power Stadium to buy some time but ended up with a goal as Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel tried to dribble the striker but ended up gifting the substitute his first goal since January 2019.

    The United striker has not been involved in any of his team’s goal in the league since he last assisted a goal in their draw against Burnley. Lingard has scored goals in Europa League and FA Cup, but his goal against the Foxes is the first in the Premier League.

    As a matter of fact, his goal was a crucial one for the Red Devils as it helps the team cement a Champions League spot for next season.

    Lingard sadly opened up on some personal issues recently that has been affecting him in an interview with talkSport;

    “I had a lot to deal with at home, and obviously you have to play in front of 75,000 people each week. And its kind of like I was numb like I weren’t there. And the game were just passing me by because I had a lot of things in my mind. Obviously, we are home, so everyone thinks oh it’s sweet, you’ve got money and you’re living in a nice house”. But money can’t buy happiness.”

    Manchester United will hope Sunday’s goal can help the striker rediscover his goal-scoring form and help the team win the Europa League.

    Jesse Lingard has underperformed this season and he is gradually falling out of favor under Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Man U forward man is seeing fewer minutes and he may be traded during this summer transfer window.
