After a urological examination on Wednesday revealed the malignancy, the 28-year-old from the Netherlands will take an indefinite vacation from football to undergo additional testing and treatment.

As disappointing as this news was initially, Hertha coach Fredi Bobic stated: “We are full of optimism and trust that Jean-Paul will heal and return to our circle as quickly as possible.”

‘Until his return, he will receive every conceivable support from us. We will be close together as the Hertha family and wish him only the best.”

Beginning in August, the player who had previously played for Feyenoord, Basel, and Mainz joined Hertha on a free transfer and signed a three-year contract.

Since his arrival, he has appeared in all six Bundesliga games, starting two of them and joining the action off the bench for the other four. He has primarily played as a center attacking midfielder.

The Berlin club is presently ranked thirteenth in the standings after playing seven games so far and winning one, drawing three, and losing three.

Boetius is the fourth player in the Bundesliga this year to receive a testicular tumor diagnosis.

Earlier this year, Marco Richter, a teammate from Hertha, had a diagnosis of a malignant tumor, but it was caught in time to be surgically removed without the need for treatment.
