James Milner has outlined why Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp is distinct from the other coaches he has worked with during his lengthy and successful stint in English football.

Milner started his career for Leeds United at the age of 16 and went on to play for Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Manchester City before joining Liverpool on a free transfer in the summer of 2015, while Brendan Rodgers was still in charge. Klopp took over a year later, and the Reds have since become the team for which Milner has made the most starts.

James Milner chatted with WALK ON, LFC’s eMagazine, on what distinguishes the German apart from all other managers. “He talks to us about what people might be thinking, he anticipates people’s thoughts before games – things such as getting tiredness out of our minds if there have been a lot of games.

“He’s very good at anticipating things that could affect players or our performances and stopping them before it happens. He puts people’s minds on the right track and has shown throughout his career that he is a top manager. He’s done a great job here and hopefully, he can win some more trophies for Liverpool FC.”

Milner considers winning the Champions League and the Premier League as two of the fondest moments from his time with the Reds.

He said: “It’s hard to pick one but those two moments were such big moments in the history of the club. Finally getting the Premier League after a big break with the club winning the league title – and being so close the year before when we got 97 points but didn’t win it – showed character, especially winning it under the strange circumstances that we did”
