Ivan Provedel Breaks Champions League History Against Atletico Madrid

Ivan Provedel went up for a late corner and glanced a fine header into the net from Luis Alberto’s cross with just seconds remaining in the match.

Provedel rushed forward when they were losing 1-0 and received a corner deep into stoppage time at the Stadio Olimpico.

The goal brought massive celebrations in the stadium as well as from his teammates who rallied around him in excitement.

Atletico took the lead in the first half of the game after Pablo Barrios’ deflected strike found the back of the net.

Ivan Provedel made a difference for Lazio as Luis Alberto cross found the goalie who scored a glancing header past his colleague Jan Oblak.

Ivan Provedel becomes the fourth goalkeeper to score in the Champions League after Jorg Butt (three between 2000 and 2009 – all penalties), Sinan Bolat (December 2009) and Vincent Enyeama (September 2010).

The feat also saw him become the second ever to score from an open play  Bolat, who also scored a 95th-minute equaliser, with his coming for Standard Liege against AZ Alkmaar.

This feat was nothing new for Provedel because he had also found the net in Serie B when securing a 2-2 draw between Ascoli and Juve Stabia in February 2020.
