Italian newspaper Tuttosport was one of the outlets who ran a front headline and called for the sack of the “SARRI OUT,” saying, ” Despite an extraordinary Ronaldo, Juve are out of the Champions League in the round of 16 against Lyon. It’s a failure for Sarri, who was unable to give the team a convincing style of play.”

while another newspaper La Gazetta Dello Sport made a front headline that reads “Sarri is at risk of losing his job, and the shadows of potential replacements Simeone Inzaghi and Zinedine Zidane are hanging over him”

French side Lyon had a 1-0 advantage from the 1st leg fixture, while Memphis Depay scored from the penalty spot to secure a vital away goal in the 12-minute match, which means Juventus needed to score three goals to qualify. However, Christiano Ronaldo scored in the 43-minute from the penalty spot to put the Old Lady within two qualification goals. Ronaldo scored from outside the box in the 60th-minute to further cut the deficit to one goal, but the team could not rise to the challenge.

Sarri was asked in his post-match press briefing if he felt his job was under threat, he responded ” I don’t think directors of a top-level will make a decision based on one match” They are going to evaluate the whole season.”

Furthermore, Lyon is the first French side to qualify for the quarter-final of the Champions League since Monaco in 2016/17, while Italian side Juventus for the first time since 2015/16 will not advance to the quarter-final of the Champions League.

Lyon will now face English side Man city in their quarter-final fixture as the English side defeated Spanish Champions Real Madrid 2-1 and 4-2 on aggregate at the Etihad stadium.
