The “cold” celebration of Cole Palmer has been spotlighted and it appears the Englishman is not the originator of it.

Palmer’s brilliance in the past 12 months has attracted the interest of many, particularly the celebration that follows the truckload of goals he has netted.

Cole Palmer Copied The Celebration From Aston Villa Star Morgan Rogers

It is believed that Cole Palmer picked up the celebration from Morgan Rogers, his ex-teammate in the youth team of Manchester City.

Rogers, who is currently plying his trade with Aston Villa, was a close ally of Palmer before they exited the Cityzens in search of greener pastures.

Morgan Rogers left Manchester City to join Middlesbrough on July 7, 2023, for a fee of €1.3 million.

Cole Palmer also departed the Etihad to join Chelsea on September 1, 2023, for a fee of €47 million.

After scoring for the Blues in their 3-2 win over Luton Town in December 2024, he celebrated with his “cold” gesture, and after the game, he was questioned about where he got the idea from.

Palmer Answering a Question Over Where He Got His Celebration

Palmer responded to the question by sharing: “My boy Morgz did it for Middlesbrough, so I told him I’d do it.”

Cole Palmer’s comments were truthful as Morgan Rogers had scored for Middlesbrough a week earlier in their 1-0 win over West Brom, and he enacted the exact celebration.

Rogers has also been seen celebrating in like manner after scoring each of his 4 goals since moving to Aston Villa from Middlesbrough in February 2024 for a fee of €9.4 million.

NBA Star Trae Young Has Been Enacting The Celebration Since 2020

Some fans have also drawn particular attention to Trae Young of the Atalanta Hawks, who has been performing the same celebration since 2020.

It is said that Young’s nickname of “Ice Trae” encouraged him to come up with a celebration equally as cold.

The point guard has also previously mentioned Cole Palmer when he made an appearance on a podcast, saying: “I hear he is a good player. I just did it. I didn’t get it from nobody.”

Other Stars That Have Done The Celebration

The iconic celebration has also been enacted by other prominent individuals, including former Manchester United midfielder Marcel Sabitzer, Botswana’s first-ever Olympic gold medallist Letsile Tebogo, and New York Yankees star Gleyber Torres amongst others.

Chelsea great Didier Drogba also famously celebrated in like manner after scoring for the Stamford Bridge side in their 4-0 away win over Rosenborg in the group stage of the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League season.

    Cole Palmer At Chelsea

Cole Palmer has never claimed that he invented the celebration, with the 22-year-old being nicknamed “Cold Palmer” or “Ice Cold Palmer” due to his lethal nature in front of goal since joining Chelsea from Manchester City in 2023.

Palmer has scored 31 goals and provided 20 assists in 54 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions.

Cole Palmer has been electric in the 2024/25 season, scoring 6 goals and providing 5 assists in 9 appearances for Chelsea.

Fascinatingly, Palmer recorded a record-setting 4 goals in a single Premier League half, helping Chelsea to a 4-2 win over Brighton in September 2024.

Cumulatively, the Englishman netted 5 goals and provided 1 assist in 4 matches across all competitions for Chelsea in September 2024.

    “Ice Cold” Cole Palmer

Cole Palmer’s display earned him the Premier League Player of the Month award alongside the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award for September 2024.

Interestingly, Palmer also recently took home his top Six trophies from the PFA awards, having been voted in the Top Six for both PFA Players’ Player of the Year and PFA Young Player of the Year.

The English international is expected to return to action on October 20, 2024, when Chelsea lock horns with Liverpool at Anfield.
