Bayern Munich number goalie, Manuel Nuer, and his teammates, Serge Gnabry, Joshua Kimmich, and Leon Goretzka will be returning to the Germany squad for their upcoming games against Turkey, Ukraine, and Switzerland.

The quartet were rested due to their participation in their recent treble success- UEFA Champions League, Bundesliga and DFB Cup.

Bayern has also started the season on a good note, winning the UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla and the German Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund respectively.

Manuel Nuer led Bayern to treble last season

Only Leroy Sane and Niklas Süle were among the Bayern players called up to Joachim Löw’s squad for last month’s 1-1 draw with Spain and Switzerland in UEFA Nations League Group A4, while the remainder of the treble-winning contingent were given a well-earned rest.

Neuer and Kimmich were rewarded for the effort last season as they were named UEFA Goalkeeper and Defender of the Year respectively on Thursday.

Kimmich has been a utility genius, having made the central midfield position his own for club and country over the past season.

Dahoud and Hofmann get first German call up

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund’s Mahmoud Dahoud and Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Jonas Hofmann have been given their first international call up. They are therefore in line for the debuts.

Dahoud in line for his firtt full international debut

Dahoud had played 26 games for Germany youth teams before exceeding the U21 age limit in 2019. The Syria-born midfielder was in Dortmund’s starting line-up in Wednesday’s Supercup, in which die Schwarzgelben were edged 3-2 by Bayern.

Dahoud, who joined Borussia Mönchengladbach’s academy at the age of 14 in 2010 has a recognized talent, contributing eight goals and 13 assists in 55 games for the Foals’ U17 and U19 sides between 2011/12 and 2013/14, before being promoted to the first team at the age of 18 in 2014.

He got his senior debut under Lucien Favre, who is now overseeing his development at Dortmund.

“I’m really pleased for Mo. He was out of action for a long time through injury, so it’s good that he’s been called up. He’s a number eight. He covers a lot of ground, can dribble really well and is quick. He can do a lot of things.” Favre says on Dahoud’s Germany nomination.

Germany will be playing Turkey in a friendly in Cologne on Wednesday before returning to their UEFA Nations League campaign against Ukraine on 10 October and then Switzerland on 13 October.
