Inter Milan president Giuseppe Motta hinted at Romelu Lukaku’s return to Chelsea upon the completion of his loan deal at Inter Milan following the sacking of Thomas Tuchel, but Motta will only entertain any discussion of that at the end of the season.
Just one year after leaving Inter Milan for Chelsea in a record £97.5 million transfer, he couldn’t perform beyond expectations. The Belgian striker signed for Serie A powerhouse Inter Milan on loan at the end of last season.
Lukaku has contributed to Inter Milan’s success with a goal and an assist, with the club sitting in the 8th position on the Serie A table.
Lukaku will return to Chelsea at the end of the 2022–23 season.
He left the London side after a not needed interview surfaced on social media that said it was a mistake that he left Inter Milan for a record fee in July last season.
His relationship with Tuchel went sour when the interview was released, and the manager preferred using Kai Havertz as a lone striker in the majority of the club’s matches last season.
Under Tuchel, he was nailed to the bench and couldn’t get enough playing time. Now that the manager has been sacked, Lukaku may get the chance he never had at the club with the appointment of Graham Potter.
Can Lukaku get his chance under Graham Potter?
Considering his market value, Inter Milan will not be interested in signing Lukaku permanently, hence, his return to Chelsea is imminent.
Lukaku is a very versatile player with a lot of pace, agility, and composure on the ball.
Even though his first touches are bad, he knows how to position himself in the right way and has exceptional scoring ability.
Potter has brought out the best of Danny Welbeck, and many others at Brighton, and he is capable of doing a similar thing to Lukaku if he returns next summer.
Chelsea is likely to dominate the Premier League next season with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Lukaku.
The Potter formation also allows the two wing backs to deliver crosses in the 18-yard box, which is one reason why Lukaku will excel with Chelsea next season.
The Belgians also need consistency because no manager will want to use a player that can’t deliver loads of goals every season.
