The Romelu Lukaku crisis continues, with the striker getting closer than ever to leaving Chelsea for Inter Milan this summer. The Belgian international’s season in 2021/22 was not his greatest, but he could have been forgiven if it weren’t for the nine-figure fee Chelsea paid for his services.

Lukaku is willing to return to Inter Milan after a disappointing season. The Serie A heavyweights are anxious to get the Belgian striker back to San Siro and are in negotiations with Chelsea about a possible loan deal.

Chelsea have already turned down Inter’s initial bid and are reportedly demanding a large loan fee plus bonuses.

The Premier League club wants a deal that will put Inter Milan in the position of paying Lukaku’s entire salary; hence, the deal may be facing some ‘difficulties’ according to what Inter chief Giuseppe Marotta said.

The club’s top executive has been very vocal about the ongoing negotiations between Inter Milan and Chelsea; his most recent thoughts on the Lukaku situation were published by Football Italia earlier today, June 20, 2022.

The Inter Milan’s CEO stated that there is still a long way to go until the sale is finalized, admitting that there have been numerous ‘difficulties’.

“It’s a feasible path, but there are some difficulties, and we need to evaluate whether there’s a chance to make it”, Marotta said.

“We won’t announce Lukaku’s return today. Lukaku and Dybala are our targets, but we need to consider financial issues.” “We are in talks with these two players, and we’ll be happy if we sign them. If not, we’ll consider different targets. The single-player is not important, what matters is the group, and this is already a solid team.”

Speaking further, Marotta addressed the possibility of new strikers such as Lukaku and Dybala arriving in the nearest future and that Lautaro Martinez is still firmly in the club’s plans.

“We have our target: make a capital gain from transfers and reduce the wage bill”, he said. “It’s in our interest to keep a strong team because this is the history of this club. We believe Lautaro is fundamental to pursuing these objectives.”

Inter Milan is in financial problems, and they are unable to spend freely. After barely missing out on the Scudetto, the Serie A giants are looking to reinforce their team. They will, however, have to plan ahead in order to accommodate new recruits and their pay while still balancing their books, which includes Chelsea forward Lukaku.

Lukaku on the other hand is pushing for a move out of Chelsea this summer as he failed to meet up with the fans’ expectations in his first season at the club.
