Inter Milan have reportedly been offered £42 million and Anthony Martial by Manchester United in exchange for their striker, Lautaro Martinez.
The Argentine striker has been in excellent form for Inter this season, scoring 17 goals in 32 Serie A games. He had formed a great relationship with former Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku in the previous two seasons, winning the league title last season.
Since leaving for Chelsea last summer, the Belgian has been given a more important position as the team’s primary center-forward. United is said to be following him now. According to Italian certified journalist, Marco Barzaghi, the Red Devils have offered £42 million and Martial to entice Inter forward Anthony Martial to Old Trafford.
In January, Martial was loaned to Sevilla in La Liga. He got off to a good start in Seville, but suddenly a lack of form struck the once-promising French star. Since signing on loan in January, he has yet to score in eight La Liga outings. Manchester United’s bad season can be attributed in part to their lack of firepower throughout the season.
Cristiano Ronaldo is the only player in the Red Devils’ lineup who has consistently scored goals. This season, the renowned striker has a total of 17 goals in 28 Premier League games.
His goals, though, haven’t been enough to stem the team’s slide, which has seen them exit all cup tournaments. They are unlikely to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League. United is in sixth place with three games remaining, one game behind fourth-placed Arsenal.
Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has already stated that the team requires a new striker. With Edinson Cavani’s contract expiring this summer, there is concern about Marcus Rashford’s future. Rangnick has limited the English forward’s game time since the German took over in December, and he has had a poor season.
As a result, Lautaro Martinez’s possible arrival would be extremely beneficial to United’s present forward issues. Manchester United’s players performed a lap of appreciation following their match against Brentford on Monday evening, despite the fact that they know it will elicit a barrage of abuse from fans given the club’s dismal season.
Incoming Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is prepared to give Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard lifelines. However, Inter Milan could potentially sign Anthony Martial, a striker who has failed to live up to the lofty expectations placed on him when he was bought in 2015. Inter’s Martinez has 70 goals in 177 appearances, while the French forward has 79 goals in 279 games.
