The club made the announcement known via their Instagram page, showing a video where the Spaniard was making the announcement to his teammates in the dressing room.
The teammates were feeling emotional about the player’s planned exit from the club at the end of the season based on the content of the video.
Muniain had spent 15 years at Athletic Bilbao. His decision to leave the club at the end of the season was made after he failed to become an important player under the club manager Ernesto Valverde.
It was the player’s decision to walk away, despite the fact that the Athletic Bilbao hierarchy were looking forward to offering the player a new contract that will see him play beyond this season.
Muniain is keen on new challenges, and according to different reports, the player is considering a move to the MLS in America.
Also, he may consider a move to River Plates in Argentina, as he is a big fan of the football club.
Meanwhile, he is looking forward to assisting his teammates in winning the remaining matches of the 2023–24 La Liga season.
