He wrote, “I hope you respect me: I’m gay.” He wrapped up the post with the hashtag felizdomingo, meaning happy Sunday in Spanish.

Basking in a fruitful and blissful marriage, blessed with beautiful kids, Casillas was married to Sara Carbonera for eleven years, before finally parting ways in 2021.

A few hours after the post, Iker Casillas pulled another stunner by deleting the post and claiming that his Twitter account was hacked.

Reports in the Spanish media soon emerged claiming that the post may have been a hoax by Casillas to dispel rumors linking him with a purported relationship with Alejandro Onieva.

Alejandro Onieva is an ex-sister-in-law of Spanish TV personality Tamara Falco. After the report of the purported relationship circulated in Spanish media outlets, Casillas has come out to openly denounced the gay tweet.

Iker Casillas apologized to the LGBT community whose feelings he must have hurt by denouncing the tweet earlier spotted on his status.

He confirmed the hack by tweeting: “Hacked account. Luckily everything in order. Apologies to all my followers. And of course, more apologies to the LGBT community.”

The drama greeting Iker Casillas’ post-football life is coming just a year after he announced his split with his wife Sara after 11 years of marriage.

“Both Sara and I feel enormously proud of the family we are and of having shared a love that has filled us with happiness during all our years together,” he announced on Instagram.

Apart from the rumors of a relationship with Onieva and the split with his wife, Iker Casillas also battled for his reputation last month after being linked with an affair with Shakira.

After a fruitful career with Real Madrid, in which he won several trophies with the Los Blancos, Iker Casillas moved to FC Porto in Portugal where he continued his football career.

In 2019, he suffered a cardiac arrest while training with Porto. This was a clarion call that his time on the pitch is up.

Casillas announced his retirement from football in 2020 via his Twitter Page.

“This is the most important day and at the same time one of the most difficult of my sporting career, the time has come to say goodbye,” the Spaniard wrote in a letter posted on Twitter.

“I have been very fortunate to make a career out of something that I am passionate about, something that fills me and makes me happy.

“My football career started 30 years ago and it has been a long path and like any journey, it’s had its good times and sad times. Looking back and at this stage of my life, I can say it’s been well worth it.”
