    Hwang Ui-jo has tendered his apology for secretly filming sexual encounters with multiple women.

    Prosecutors claimed Ui-jo filmed sexual encounters with 2 of his partners without their consent on 4 occasions between June and September 2022.

    Hwang Ui-jo made his first court appearance in Seoul on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, and he tendered his apology over the incident.

    Despite suing his sister-in-law, the charges against him remained in court as prosecutors said he filmed the videos illegally.

    Prosecutors objected to providing details on the women in the videos to prevent them from further distress.

    Speaking to the court in Seoul, South Korea, Hwang Ui-jo affirmed that he will not partake in any wrongdoing in the future and will do his best “as a footballer”.

    Hwang subsequently apologized for his actions, saying: “I sincerely apologize to the victims who have been affected by my actions, and I am deeply sorry for the disappointment I have caused to all those who have cared and supported me.”

    Reports indicate that he could be slammed with a four-year prison sentence as punishment for his misdeeds.

    Hwang currently plays for Turkish Süper Lig side Alanyaspor, having joined the club from Nottingham Forest for an undisclosed fee in September 2024.
