Monza are the first newly-promoted team to secure all three points against Juventus since 1972 after a surprise 1-0 win at the Stadio Brianteo. The win also earned Monza their first-ever Serie A win.

Monza pulled one of the biggest Serie A upsets after a second-half strike by Christian Gytkjaer ended the club’s historic winless Serie A run.

Massimiliano Allegri may be under intense pressure after Sunday 1-0 defeat to the bottom-placed and newly promoted Serie A side Monza.

The Old ladies of Turin went into the match with a four-match winless run in all competitions, with Massimiliano Allegri certainly numbering his days at the club.

Allegri has suffered setbacks since the beginning of the 2022/23 Serie A season. Juventus have struggled recently in the League, even against lowly-rated teams. Against Salernitana, Allegri was sent off after he protested Millik’s last-minute disallowed winner against the belligerent home side.

Monza started the game at the bottom of the Serie A table, but were brighter and promising in the opening minutes against their highly-rated visitors.

Patrick Ciurria, Stefano Sensi, and Mota all had some chances to find the back of the net. Mota came close to giving the host the lead after he saw his header from Marlon’s pass fly over the bar.

Juventus were less clinical and unimpressive as the host proved a force to reckon with throughout the game.

Juve’s nightmare were further complicated in the 40th minute. New signing Angel Di Maria was issued a controversial red card reducing the Old Ladies to 10 men.

Izzo, Monza defender, had harried the Argentine in the midfield. Di Maria, had his elbow made a slight but less serious contact with Izzo’s chest but the defender went down claiming agonizing pain. Fabio Maresca issued a controversial red card which saw the former PSG and Man United star sent off.

Despite having a man down, Juve had a good chance just before the break, but was squandered by Danilo.

The game went end-to-end in the second half with no impressive showing, but Monza was finally able to capitalize on their one man advantage and take the lead in the 75th minute. Gytkjaer volleyed in from close range after Ciurra crossed from the near post.

Juve came close to finding an equalizer, but Kean squandered Mckeene’s pass as he just headed straight to the Monza goalkeeper from five yards.

The game finally ended with a surprise defeat for Juventus elongating their search for a win after five Serie A matches amid mounting pressure on Massimiliano Allegri.

The win saw Monza earn their first Serie A victory of the season after being promoted from Serie B. They had lost all five matches and drew one before the game. They are currently 18th on the table with 4 points from 7 matches.

Juventus, on the other hand, recorded their first defeat of the season after winning just two games and drawing four in a row. They currently sit in the 8th position on the table with 10 points from seven matches.
