The absence of Neymar for PSG could be a blessing in disguise as the Brazilian continues to have a torrid season with injuries.

Neymar had initially began the season with an injury that ruled him out of the openi9njg games of the domestic League. While training ahead of his return, he was hit by the COVID-19 virus and had to be isolated for another ten days.

On his return to action from COVID-19 against Marseille, he got into a melee and got red-carded. This was the same time Kylian Mbappe was recovering from a nasty injury he sustained against Saint-Etienne. After being out due to the suspension, he returned for the side.

On his return to the field, Neymar sustained a harmstring injury in the Champions League clash against Instanbul Basaksehir. He eventually became the major reason PSG qualified with his two goals against Manchester United at the Old Trafford which took them to 9 points and level with Leipzig as well.

Knowing fully well that Basaksehir will be their final opponent, PSG was confident of progressing to the knock out stage.

In the match rescheduled after Pierre Webo, an assistant coach of Basaksehir claimed that a racist remark was made by the assistant referee, Neymar showed his mettle again with another brace.

But in the Ligue 1 game against Lyon, Neymar would go back to the treatment room after a dangerous tackle from Thiago Mendes got him stretch off the match.

Neymar to return for PSG in January, to be available for Messi and Barcelona reunion

The impact of Neymar in Thomas Tuchel’s side is phenomenal having been a creator and goalscorer.

As he has now been ruled of action. After several tests and evaluations, PSG has set his return month for January. On getting injured from the clash of Mendes, Neymar was seen screaming in agony and clutching his ankle.

“There is some bruising to the bone and he continues to undergo treatment. He is expected to make his return in January,” said a PSG statement.

This is in contrast of what PSG head coach Thomas Tuchel said. The manager had suggested at the start of the week that Neymar had a chance of facing Lille this Sunday.

Such a statement is a reassurance that the forward will be fully fit to face former club Barcelona in the last 16 of the Champions League in February.

Since joining PSG for a world-record fee of 222m euros (£200m) from Barcelona in August 2017, Neymar has helped the club win three successive Ligue 1 titles as well as reach last season’s Champions League final, where they lost to Bayern Munich.

It is hope that Neymar will be back on time and land his side the needed trophies and games.
