Newcastle winger Harvey Barnes has been confirmed injured on the foot and will be out for “months rather than weeks.”
Harvey Barnes, 25, was seen limping off the pitch 12 minutes into Sunday’s match where Newcastle thrashed Sheffield United 8-0.
The winger, who joined Newcastle from Leicester in July for £38m, had a scan and is waiting for the result to know if surgery will be needed.
Speaking on the injury, Howe said: “It’s an injury to a part of the foot just below the toe. I think it’s quite a substantial injury.”
“I won’t go too technical because I’m not qualified to do so but yes it’s a very unusual injury.”
Harvey Barnes will be absent from Newcastle’s game as they will face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, 27th September 2023.
Howe also added: “He was down after the game because he knew it wasn’t a normal injury where you feel a muscle and think that might be one or two weeks. This was a slightly more complex issue.”
