Harry Maguire, 29, has seen his rating with England and Manchester United fans plummet recently.

Maguire joined Manchester United from Leicester City in 2019 as one of the most highly rated defenders in the Premier League.

Maguire made 69 appearances for Leicester City before he left for Manchester United. While at Leicester, the England international was a preferred and revered center-back for the Foxes.

In his debut season with the Foxes, Harry Maguire played every minute and was awarded Leicester City’s player of the season.

Due to his brilliant performance with Leicester City, Manchester United signed the English defender as the world’s most expensive defender in 2019.

The Red Devils paid a whooping £80million to Leicester City, beating Liverpool’s £75million signing of Virgil van Dijk from Southampton.

Maguire started on a good note with the Red Devils, making his debut in one of the then mo st renowned Premier League rivalries – Manchester United vs Chelsea.

The Red Devils humbled Chelsea 4-0, with Maguire towering high at the Manchester United center-back position and stopping Chelsea from scoring.

He was awarded the man of the match – a perfect way to convince the fans of his pedigree and what he has to offer the club.

On 17 January, 2020, Harry Maguire was appointed the captain of the team by former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Unfortunately, Maguires’ brilliant era has been short-lived. He has suffered criticisms from both England and Man United fans who have called on the Three Lions of England head coach, Gareth Southgate to drop him.

Series of blunders and reckless gaffes on the pitch has seen Maguire’s popularity diminished at Old Trafford.

Maguire started Manchester United’s first two Premier League matches, and it ended in disastrous defeat, with the Red Devils conceding six goals in two games.

Since tthan new manager Erik Ten Hag has dropped Maguire on the bench and used new signing from Ajax Lisandro Martinez in his place.

Maguire’s poor form has seen his game time under Erik Ten Hag drastically reduced. The once revered defender is not seen as a bad omen because Manchester United have won all the Premier League games he didn’t play in this season.

Yet, Gareth Southgate took risk to include Harry Maguire in his UEFA Nations League squad even though England fans were calling for him to be dropped after a series of poor performance and serial blunders.

When England took on Germany in their final UEFA Nations League group game, Maguire was, once again, trolled by England fans after Germany youngster star Musiala dribbled him and made him commit a penalty.

Despite his poor form, Gareth Southgate has stuck to Maguire in the full-back position and had come out to defend the Man United star after the Musiala incident.

Former England manager Harry Redknapp is another renowned name in English football that has refused to give up on Harry Maguire.

According to Harry Redknapp, Harry Maguire is a ‘proper defender’ that should not be left out of England’s 2022 World Cup squad.

Manchester United conceded 6 goals in two consecutive matches with Maguire on the defense

Harry Redknapp’s position on Maguire is somewhat different from what pundits and fans think of the player with respect to the dip in his form.

Meanwhile, Gareth Southgate will definitely include Maguire in his World Cup squad, not because of the recommendations of Harry Redknapp.

It appears that Maguire possesses an endearing skill that both managers fancy, but performance is equally an excellent peg to rate a player; fans and pundits are not wrong either.
