Harry Maguire of Manchester United explains why he gets criticism from the media

According to Harry Maguire, the media attacks him because they are aware that stories concerning the Manchester United captain will result in “clicks.” 

Harry Maguire has had a difficult few seasons and recently found himself on Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag’s bench. 

Gareth Southgate nevertheless chose him (Maguire) for Friday night’s 1-0 UEFA Nations League loss to Italy that resulted in the Three Lions being knocked down to the competition’s B league. 


Harry Maguire has gained attention throughout the international break following a statement by ESPN’s Mark Ogden in which he (Maguire) seemed to blame people around him, particularly goalkeeper David de Gea, for his poor club form. 

The former Leicester City player appeared to criticize Manchester United for his diminished position in recent weeks, pointing to his performance at the Euros, which led to his selection to the team of the competition.

“I went into the Euros after an eight-week injury, didn’t play a single game, and made the team of the tournament,” Maguire remarked. “That won’t happen in terms of rustiness and similar issues, I’m positive of it.

The Englishman said after their match against Italy, “I am not concentrating on anybody else and what people are saying. I suppose if people can make a story about me, I am Manchester United captain, it is going to gather more clicks.”

The 29-year-old carried on with his rant, which included a reference to Ten Hag. “The manager opted to leave me out for a game, and the team has been winning since,” he said about the management’s decision to bench him.

Southgate has regularly and openly supported one of his trusty lieutenants, even though Maguire hasn’t started a Premier League game for his club team in the past six weeks. Even more recently, the England manager claimed the Manchester United defender was the target of a “huge agenda.” 

Despite having the backing of his national team’s coach, Harry Maguire will be eager to reclaim a spot in his club team before the World Cup. On October 2, Manchester United will play a crucial derby match against Manchester City.

The player also cautioned fans against believing untrue news reports about him, claiming that as captain of England’s most famous football team, he was certain to garner attention.

Harry Maguire backed himself to return to the Red Devils’ starting lineup and declared he would seize the chance if it presented itself.

Although some fans will take exception to Harry Maguire’s remarks, it is best for everyone if he rapidly returns to his best form before a busy October. There are a lot of games coming up, and he will surely be needed in some of them.
