Nike has reportedly put its boot endorsement deal renewal talks with England and Tottenham football icon Harry Kane on hold as Manchester City’s striker Erling Haaland seems to be Nike’s favorite.
The American sportswear manufacturer Nike is desperately yearning for the Norway super striker to sign a new deal with the company following his excellent impact in the Premier League campaign.
Meanwhile, the England captain and Tottenham renowned forward had a deal with Nike in the past and should have a renewal of his current contract after the Winter World Cup finals, which all football brands see as a major marketing event.
However, despite Erling Haaland’s Norway failing to grab the Qatar World Cup ticket, and Kane competing with his side, Nike is interested and wants the 22-year-old City forward to strike a deal with them before the World Cup tournament begins.
The boot sponsorship deal is lucrative only for the highest-profile footballers with even the top players amassing funds significantly more than what they earn in their club as wages.
However, the Manchester City star is currently not signed by any brand to a boot sponsorship and is being hustled around by the world’s biggest companies.
Haaland’s previous deal with Nike expired earlier this year and he has been wearing different brands this term.
The 22-year-old usually wears Nike boots but he has also been spotted in Puma and Adidas wears this season.
Daily Telegraph reported that aside from Nike, other major brands are prioritizing a bold move for Erling Haaland, despite the fact his side isn’t competing in Qatar World Cup, thereby, putting any deal for the England national team captain ‘on hold’.
Harry Kane has bagged a quite number of commercial deals in recent years over his Nike endorsement which comprises Lucozade energy drink and earphone brand Beats, which have now expired.
The modus operandi is that most football brands go after famous footballers as their marketable names have always yielded lucrative deals for them.
Whereas, Haaland‘s output this season since his £51 million arrival at the Etihad Stadium has been stunning. The 22-year-old has already scored 14 goals just in 10 appearances in all competitions for City this season plus his general fascination above other players makes him hugely appreciated by Nike.
Unlike Erling Haaland, Harry Kane will be at the 2022 World Cup as England captain and he is one of the rated players to win the 2022 golden boot after he bagged the 2018 World Cup golden boot.
Nevertheless, the American manufacturer Nike is reported to be planning its budget around capturing the 22-year-old Norway star before considering other players.
Whereas, Harry Kane is then likely to resign with the American brand Nike after the Winter World Cup.
What is next for Nike’s favorite Haaland is a much-expected Manchester derby as Guardiola’s sides will welcome Premier League rivals Manchester United to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon, October 2, 2022.
