Harry Kane has revealed that he had an “honest discussion” with the club’s chairman Daniel Levy on how to revive Tottenham.
Kane and his teammates met with chief Levy a day after Newcastle United thrashed them 6-1 at St James’ Park.
The thrashing by Newcastle led to the sacking of the Interim coach Cristian Stellini who Ryan Mason replaced.
When speaking about the meeting, Kane said: “I think it was important [for Levy] to understand where the players’ heads were at that moment.”
“It was an honest conversation of where everyone is at and what we need to try to do to give us the best possible chance to finish the season with something.”
Harry Kane also added that Newcastle’s result had been “building up” since Tottenham conceded two late goals in a 3-3 draw against Southampton last month which led to the exit of then-manager Antonio Conte.
Tottenham came from a 2-0 down to draw Manchester United in Ryan Mason’s first game in charge to remain fifth in the table, six points outside the top four.
Kane went on to say; “we’re still fighting for fourth place but if it’s not fourth, we’ll try to finish fifth or sixth – as high up as we can.”
“In this league, it’s so competitive, you can easily end up eighth or ninth if you’re not careful. That’s what it was – to give us the best chance and I’m glad we reacted like that.”
Kane however did not comment on the rumors about a summer transfer to Manchester United despite the Red Devils’ fans singing “See you in June” during Thursday’s match.
Harry Kane is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract at Tottenham and has been linked to a summer move to Old Trafford.
“I heard what they were saying but I’m just focused on this team and trying to finish strongly,” he concluded.
Kane was a subject of interest from Manchester City in 2021 but Tottenham blocked the transfer and the Englishman was forced to remain at Spurs.
Best In The World?
Tottenham’s interim boss Ryan Mason has tagged Kane as “one of the best and most intelligent players in the world”.
Kane is Tottenham’s all-time top scorer bagging a total of 274 goals in 430 appearances surpassing former Spurs’ player Jimmy Greaves.
He also broke Wayne Rooner’s record to become England’s all-time top scorer after he scored his 54th international goal against Italy in March.
Ryan Mason who had also played with Kane in his playing days said: “This country probably doesn’t appreciate how good Kane is from a footballer point of view. He’s incredible.”
“Watching him live, this country should appreciate we’ve got a real special talent. We’re talking about one of the best, most intelligent players in the world”.
