Bayern Munich and England star Harry Kane finally ended his trophy drought, but his classy gesture did not go unnoticed.

Bayern Munich Vs Tottenham Hotspur pre-season match recap

Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany returned to England for the first time in the top-rated pre-season clash after he exited Burnley to the Bundesliga giants.

The Belgian young gaffer must have had his nerves on the fray when Tottenham attacker Kulusevski scored a minute into the match to give the home side the lead.

However, his array of top-rated attacking arsenals were on hand to overturn the scoreline in a flash. Dayot Upamecano scored 15 minutes after Kulusevski’s strike to restore parity.

16 minutes later, Serge Gnabry fired the Bavarians into the lead. Thomas Muller sealed the dramatic first-half comeback with a 44th minute strike to extend the lead before the break.

In the second half, Kulusevski would score a minute after the hour mark to halve the deficit. And that would be the last goal of the game, with Bayern Munich winning 3-2 after the final whistle.

Harry Kane refused to lift the Visit Malta Cup after the match

Harry Kane played little role in the match. He was a second-half substitute and managed just one attempt after coming on. However, his teammates were equal to the task from the first half.

The victory saw the Bundesliga giants nailed home their first silverware  heading into the campaign as they lifted the Visit Malta Cup. Kane’s dragging trophy drought was finally ended. Ironically, the footballer’s first silverware came at his former club, where he spent a heroic 14 years and never won anything.

One would have expected the player to embrace the milestone, but that was not Kane. He refused to lift the trophy when handed a chance in apparent reverence for his former club.

If he had lifted the trophy, it would have been a subtle dig at his former club, Tottenham Hotspur, who never touched a silverware in over decade despite Kane’s heroics.

After the match, the footballer went a step further to shed more light on his decision. To him, it was nostalgic to return to the club that played for 14 years.

“Amazing to be back at the place that will always be special to me. Thanks everyone for an incredible welcome..,” he wrote on X.

Harry  Kane heroic campaign with Bayern Munich and prospects

The 2023-24 season saw Harry Kane take up a new challenge with Bayern Munich, joining the club for £82 million on a five-year contract. It was a groundbreaking debut campaign for the 30-year-old in the German top flight.

He won the Golden Boot with 38 league goals and broke a 60-year-old record by Uwe Seeler after he netted his 31st league goal in a 5-2 win over Darmstadt.

With the 2024-25 season at the corner, the prolific forward is expected to play a big role as Bayern Munich aim to reclaim the German championship from 2023-24 champions Bayer Leverkusen.
