Bayern Munich could end up resigning free agent, Mario Götze after the coach, Hansi Flick got in contact with the player.

Götze and Flick are no stranger to each other from their time as assistant coach and player respectively for Germany’s National team. Flick was on the Germany national team when Götze scored the game-winning goal in extra time of the final of the 2014 World Cup against Argentina.

With a mass exodus of players like Thiago Alcantara, Philippe Couthino, Alvaro Odrizola, and Ivan Perisic, Flick is looking to add to his squad before this transfer window closes.

Free agent Mario Gotze last played for Borussia Dortmund last season

Sport Bild (print edition) reports that Flick has been in contact with the ex-Bayern player, who made a return to Borussia Dortmund. Recall that the midfielder, who sometimes play as a striker was singed by Bayern from the BVB in 2013 before returning to BVB again in 2016.

Götze scored 22 goals and made 21 assists during his time with European champions. He however failed to cement a regular spot in the starting lineup under Pep Guardiola. After returning to Dortmund in 2016, Götze played for the Black-Yellow until his contract expired at the end of last season.

No comment yet from Bayern Munich hierarchy yet

Bayern Munich board members, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Brazzo Salihamidzic are yet to comment, potentially indicating their scepticism surrounding Götze.

Mario Gotze and Hansi Flick are no strangers to each other

Bayern, however, has an opportunity to sign the midfielder as a free agent and that as a potential low risk. Flick had wanted Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, but lost them to Premier League team, Chelsea. It hoped that the board would let Flick have his way on this one.

What can Mario Götze add to Bayern Munich

Knowing his capabilities, Götze would bring another veteran presence in the squad, having played with most of the team at the club or international level. He has already played at Bayern previously and under Flick with Germany. So, it should be fairly easy for him to acclimate.

29-year-old Götze could still have a lot in his locker. In a recent interview with Bild, he said his main ambition is to win the Champions League trophy at all costs and Bayern can make that dream come true.
