Liverpool has agreed to a deal with German champions Bayern Munich land their Spanish world-class midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

Thiago Alcantara may leave Bayern Munich this summer

Since moving from Barcelona to the Allianz Arena, Thiago has been simply sensational for the Bavarians. Last season, the midfielder helped Bayern win the treble, as they clinched their eighth Bundesliga title on the spin, the German Cup, and the UEFA Champions League as they beat PSG in the finals last month in Lisbon.

The Spaniard reportedly told the Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in July that he wanted a new challenge and the chairman admitted that talks over a contract extension between the player and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic had broken down and the player could leave, only if a reasonable price was tabled by potential suitors.

Both Manchester United and Liverpool were in a heated race to sign the midfield maestro, but now according to Fabrizio Romano of The Athletic, Liverpool edged-out the Manchester club and have agreed to a fee with Bayern Munich.

After the Premier League champions saw their first bid turned down when they tried to bring the price tag down to around 15€ million, they have reportedly agreed to Bayern’s 30€ million (£27.3 million) asking price.

It is reported that the initial fee is around £20m but add-ons based on appearances and Liverpool winning trophies could takes the fee up to a total of £27m.

With personal terms are still to be agreed between the Reds and Thiago, its just a matter of time before an announcement is made after the Germans have made it clear they want to close the deal before the new season of the Bundesliga kicks off.

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed after reports that a deal has been reached.

He said: “That was Thiago’s wish,”

“On the one hand, I regret that, in Thiago, a great player who won the treble with us just a few weeks ago leaves Bayern.

“But it was a big wish of his to something new as he approached the end of his career. After long discussions, we came to an internal agreement.”

Thiago Alcantara will pen a four-year contract and will wear the No 6 jersey in Liverpool.
