Chelsea coughed out £21 million to bring Graham Potter to the club from Brighton. The world record fee for a manager was revealed by Brighton on Wednesday.

The manager had a £15 million release clause in his Brighton contract.

Brighton revealed the real fee Chelsea paid for Potter after publishing its account for the year.

The account showed a financial statement of a negative £89 million.

Before he left for Chelsea, Potter brought in multiple technical assistants to the West London side, which includes Bjorn Hamberg and Billy Reid.

Chelsea brought in Potter on a five year deal after the club went ahead to sack Thomas Tuchel after a series of poor results in the Premier League and Champions League.

Potter was quickly identified as a manager that could tactically develop Chelsea and make the team compete for silverware ahead of other world-class managers like Ruben Amorim and Mauricio Pochettino.

Todd Boehly was also impressed with his Premier League experience with Brighton and their style of play that made the Seagulls get tangible points from Manchester United and Chelsea.

However, it has not been the best season for Potter as the new Chelsea manager so far. The club had only managed eight wins in the Premier League since he was appointed in September 2022.

It will cost Chelsea £2.7 million per win in the Premier League.

Potter had enjoyed endurance and a lot of patience from Boehly.

The American owner had failed to sack Potter even when he was getting poor results.

Boehly’s patience is paying off as Chelsea have qualified for the quarterfinals of the Champions League and have won two matches in a row with a draw with Everton.

Chelsea are currently in 10th place, 11 points outside Champions League.
Even though European football is out of reach, the club is improving in so many fronts.

Boehly had spent a whopping amount of £600 million to get new players, and there are believes that Potter is still going to change the fortunes of the team.

Graham Potter is ready for the return of three players against Aston Villa on April 1, 2023.

Chelsea face Aston Villa as they target a top-six finish at the end of the season.

Kante, who made the bench against Everton, is likely to get his first start against Aston Villa in the Premier League.

It will take the 31-year-old France star this March international break to be ready to play 90 minutes of football again.

Another player that may be ready for action is Raheem Sterling. The winger was battling hamstring injuries but may be fit for Chelsea’s next match.

The former Manchester City player has the international break to speed up his recovery.

Wesley Fofana, who picked up an injury against Everton, will also be in contention to play against Aston Villa when the league starts again.

What do you think about Chelsea high spending to bring the manager to Chelsea?
