After three years as Brighton’s manager, Potter, 47, was named Chelsea’s manager on Thursday after the club parted ways with German coach Thomas Tuchel.

“For some, I recognise that the change that comes so suddenly in football can be hard to accept,” he wrote.

“I may not be able to persuade you all to forgive my departure – but I would at least like to take the chance to say thank you.”

Potter, who assumed Thomas Tuchel’s position at Stamford Bridge, added: “I hope that you will understand that at this stage of my career, I felt I had to grasp a new opportunity.”

Potter, a former Ostersunds FK and Swansea City manager, guided Brighton to their best-ever ninth-place finish in the Premier League last season.

This season, after they won four and drew one of their first six Premier League games, he has led them to fourth place in the standings.

“I feel I am a better person and a better manager for the experiences I have had here [at Brighton],” he continued in an open letter written on Thursday and posted on Brighton’s website on Sunday, September 11.

“Not every team selection or decision has been perfect. But the club has created an environment that gives you the scope to make mistakes, learn from them and then improve.

“I have always tried to act with integrity and be a good person. These are values I hold dear, and I know that the Albion do too.”

Potter, who defeated Leicester 5-2 in his final game with Brighton on September 4th, continued: “I did not know at the time that it would be the end, but looking back now, we played so well. There was so much positivity around the club.

With the Swedish team stersund, Potter launched his professional managing career in January 2011.

With stersund, he earned three promotions and the Svenska Cupen, helping them advance to the 2017–18 UEFA Europa League knockout round.

In June 2018, he was named manager of Championship team Swansea City. A year later, he moved on to manage Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion. He was appointed head coach of Chelsea in September 2022.

Why did Chelsea fire Thomas Tuchel?

Todd Boehly reportedly fired coach Thomas Tuchel due to his “difficult and unstable traits”. The writing was on the wall even though it wasn’t official.

After Chelsea’s loss to Dinamo Zagreb, Futballnews assessed Thomas Tuchel’s prospects of keeping his job as manager.

Despite Todd Boehly’s £273.5 million investment in the team, Chelsea appeared to be in trouble, with new defenders costing over £160 million.

The Blues have given up goals in their last six competitive games, indicating that their significant summer transfer expenditure did not improve their on-field performance.

Many commentators were shocked when Todd Boehly fired Thomas Tuchel because they assumed he made a snap choice that would later prove to be unwise.
