Getafe president Angel Torres has provided his honest verdict on Mason Greenwood amidst Manchester United return rumor.
Recall that Mason Greenwood has not played for Man United since January 2022, after he was arrested and charged with rape and assault.
However, those cases were later dropped when a witness withdrew their lawsuit but after six months of internal investigation, United decided it was best for him to go on a loan deal.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, May 8, Torres announced that the Red Devils have no interest in bringing the England International back to the club this summer.
Having been informed that he wasn’t part of the club plan last year, the 22-year-old secured a loan move to Getafe, and he has had an outstanding run at the La Liga outfit this season, scoring 10 goals and dishing out six assists in 32 appearances in all competitions.
After Man United’s new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe took over the club early in 2024, the British billionaire opened the door for the winger’s potential return to Old Trafford for the 2024/2025 season.
However, it has been strongly reported that the 20-time Premier League winners are planning to sell the 22-year-old winger this summer provided that their price tag for the academy product is met.
The speculation has therefore motivated Getafe’s president to hope that the Englishman loan deal in Spain will be extended. Greenwood himself has declared that a return to Old Trafford this summer is not on his plan.
Getafe President Angel Torres said Mason Greenwood ‘will not return to Manchester United‘
Speaking on Greenwood’s potential return to Man United, Torres said; “If it was up to the lad, his parents, and the club (Getafe), I think he would continue for another year”.
“But regarding Manchester (United), the news that we have from last week where the sporting director went to England to see some games and was with them, is that if a good offer comes along, they would want to sell because he is not going to go back there (to Manchester).
“We’ll have to wait until the end of June. The family and the player are very comfortable and very happy here, with our fans. When he came here, he hadn’t played for 16 months.
He added; “He has recovered his form, he has scored eight league goals and two in the Copa [del Rey]. The people and the coach are very happy with him. I think he will remain with us for another season, or at least until January. He is a good footballer.”
