    His suspension is understood to be coming after he refused to sign his autograph on a fan’s rainbow jersey promoting diversity.

    It is alleged the 33-year-old declined to sign the jersey on numerous occasions before he fired an X-rated comment at the Wolfsburg supporter.

    Insisting on not signing the shirt, Behrens allegedly said: “I won’t sign that kind of gay s***”.

    Reports indicate that the incident resulted in a meeting between Behrens and Wolfsburg sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz.

    According to German media outlet Bild, Behrens maintained his stance that he “had no aversion to homosexuals”.

    His comments have led to him being suspended by Wolfsburg, who was quick to share that his remarks “were not in line with their stance.”

    Based on reports, the kit supporting diversity was introduced by Wolfsburg five years ago (2019).

    Behrens’ suspension is understood to have been revealed by Schindzierlorz, with the German football administrator saying: “Homophobia has no place with us, Kevin is now home alone.”

    Wolfsburg’s Statement On Kevin Behrens 

    Wolfsburg also released a statement informing the public of their stance regarding the Kevin Behrens controversy.

    They wrote: “During an internal meeting, statements were made that were not in line with VfL Wolfsburg’s stance. The incident was immediately dealt with internally.

    “VfL Wolfsburg stresses that it is aware of its social responsibility. The club and its employees stand for diversity and tolerance, and fundamental values such as respect, honesty, and openness have always been firmly anchored in the club’s philosophy.”

    Kevin Behrens’ Apology

    Behrens has apologized for his remarks, and he confirmed that the matter was “clearly discussed” between him and the club, while noting that his comments were “not okay”.

    He said: “My spontaneous comments were absolutely not okay. I would like to apologize for that. 

    “The issue was clearly discussed internally and I ask for your understanding that I do not wish to comment further on it.”

    It is unknown if the suspension that has reportedly been heaped on him will be discontinued for normalcy to return.

    Kevin Behrens joined Wolfsburg from Union Berlin in January 2024 for a fee of €2 million.
