German Police have arrested four teenagers on suspicion of planning an attack with knives and molotov cocktails, amidst preparation for Euro 2024.
The arrest comes as German Police officials prepare for a possible ISIS attack on the Euro games in Germany this summer.
According to reports, four young boys and girls were arrested by German Police near Dusseldorf after they found out about the group’s dreadful ideas.
On Friday, April 12, investigators were frightened to find the teenagers, aged just 15 and 16, in possession of a machete and other dangerous weapon. They were sending texts to a group talking about German cities.
The four teenagers were from the Dusseldorf region in the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia and are believed to have been planning crimes of murder and manslaughter, as well as preparing a serious act of violence endangering the state.
The state’s Central Office for the Prosecution of Terrorism sought an arrest warrant for the teenagers over the weekend.
The aforementioned teenagers had reportedly formed a group chat, although, they had not set a date or place for the suspected attack, but investigators said they certainly saw the danger.
The authorities did not provide further details about the alleged plot nor did they specify how advanced the plans were, citing the suspects’ young age and the continuing investigation.
However, reporters claimed that the teenagers were allegedly planning to carry out attacks on worshippers in churches and on police stations using knives and Molotov cocktails following the ideology of the ISIS. The teenagers were also weighing whether to obtain firearms.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, April 9, and Wednesday, April 10, European Champions League matches were also threatened by the group, but the tournament eventually proceeded as planned in London, Paris, and Madrid, although under ramped-up security measures.
A PR arm sent out a poster message that read “Kill them all”, prompting major security operations at each stadium.
A massive security operation was then introduced across the aforementioned Europe matches this week with armed officers, roaming bomb dogs, and special anti-terror units.
While the games went ahead without a hitch, security officials in Germany have now been placed on high alert ahead of the upcoming Euro 2024 championship games.
The country is also nervous about security breaches as it prepares to host the European football championships from mid-June to mid-July.
