Barcelona shared a gruesome footage of Gavi having his ear in stitches after Osasuna match.
It was not a bed of roses for the Catalans at El Sadar as they battled Osasuna, in Laliga on Sunday.
The Catalan giants dominated proceedings in the game but sweat to salvage a narrow win.
Jules Kounde raced the visitors into the lead with an assist from former Manchester City star IIkay Gundogan. Osasuna fought back to restore parity late in the second half with Chily Avila’s 76th minute goal.
It almost ended squares but Robert Lewandowski made the difference for the Catalans, converting a late spotkick to return the side to the lead.
The game ended with the Xavi-led boys grabbing all three points to continue their chase on Real Madrid for Laliga top spot.
Osasuna is always a tough nut for Barcelona to crack in Laliga. The basque opponents always drag the Catalans before surrendering. It’s usually a feisty contest. The Laliga Matchday four encounter was not a departure.
Gavi picked up gruesome ear injury
Gavi happened to be a casualty of the heated clash that was marred with wild tackles and rough challenges.
The Barcelona youngster was left in a pool of blood in a challenge involving him and Osasuna player, Rudi Garcia.
He sustained injury to his ear following the challenge and had to be quickly attended to by Barcelona medical staff, who stitched up the wound with staples and arrested blood flow.
After the treatment, Barcelona took to their social media handle to post a clip of Gavi’s injured ear, showing the extent of the injury.
It appears the 19-year-old has sustained deep cut to his ear and needed stitches to close the wound. However, the injury seemed not to have impacted his game as he was able to continue his game and see the club preserve their win over the home side.
Gavi makes 100th Barcelona appearance at 19
Despite the injury blow, it was still a good outing for Gavi as he recorded his 100th appearance for Barcelona in the game at 19.
Gavi graduated from the famous Barcelona Academy, La Masia, in 2021. He was first tested with Barcelona reserve team before making the leap to Barcelona first team.
His rise at Barcelona came after he spent six years at La Masia. He joined La Masia at age 11 and had a sterling youth career, progressing through the ranks to Barcelona first team.
Gavi made his first team debut for Barcelona in 2021/22 preseason campaign. So far, he has made 74 Laliga appearances for Barcelona but has recorded 100 appearances in all competitions.
Gavi’s Barcelona contract
Gavi has a running contract with Barcelona till 2026 signed last summer. His contract is worth £7.1m every year. Laliga president Javier Tebas kicked against Gavi’s Barcelona deal as it was off the club’s salary limit as set by Laliga.
Barcelona faced hurdles trying to register Gavi due to the alleged collision with Laliga fair play rules but Spanish court ruled in favor of the Catalans, allowing the club register the player.
