The England football team has set a poor record of playing 3 games without a win for the first time in 4 years under the reign of coach Gareth Southgate.

Southgate’s team set the awful record after the team’s third Nations League game against Italy ended in a 0-0 draw. The poor run has brought about a lot of criticism for the Three Lions and made their chances of winning the forthcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar look slimmer than desired.

Note that the game against Italy was a repeat of the 2020 UEFA European Championship which ended 0-0 but the Italians won via a penalty shoot-out. England’s manager Gareth Southgate has revealed that his team is currently having a hard time in the 2022-2023 Nations League but the fear is, won’t the hard time continues in the World Cup which is less than five months away?

    Road To Setting The Record

England football team started the 2022 Nations League campaign with a game against Hungary. Most football fans expected the game to be a walkover for The Three Lions but it was the opposite. The game finished in a 1-0 defeat for England.

They met Germany in the second game and played out a 1-1 draw. The goal in this match was the first and only goal scored by England in the competition so far. It came from a penalty by their captain Harry Kane.

The match with Italy was their third game in the competition. During the first and second halves of the game, both teams posed a danger of scoring, with England controlling 58 percent of possession and Italy 42 percent. England attempted 12 shots with four on target, while Italy attempted only eight shots with only three on target.

On Tuesday, England football team will face Hungary at the Molineux Stadium in Wolverhampton in the next leg of their campaign. On the same day, the Azzurri face the Germans at Borussia-Park Mönchengladbach.

England’s current form is not encouraging and the manager needs to act fast to get his team ready for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Going into the World Cup with such form and squad could mean their hunt for a major trophy since 56 years won’t be achieved. The only thing working for the team is that it was over 60 percent of the current squad that took England to the semi-finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

They had an impressive run in Euro 2020 which saw them finish as runners-up in the competition. But the number of big teams going to Qatar this year will cause more problems for the current setup of Southgate’s Three Lions.

The England football team is made of players who play mainly in the English Premier League and have good club records. Players like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane, and Tammy Abraham had a good season at their respective clubs.

But their performance with the England football team seems to have reduced. Gareth Southgate has revealed that he still wants to bring out the best from Arnold and has told his team not to only depend on Harry Kane for goals.

That over-dependence on Harry Kane seems to be a big problem for the current setup of the Three Lions which needs to be resolved before the forthcoming World Cup commence in November 2022.
