Gareth Southgate has claimed that Harry Kane’s move to Bayern Munich will boost England and put a halt to the striker being disturbed by questions over his future club during the summer European International break.
England national team head coach, Gareth Southgate is happy about Harry Kane’s decision to join the German powerhouse, after the 30-year-old had to deal with off-field distractions during the Euro 2020.
Kane reached that competition having made it clear he wished to depart Spurs, who declined to sell him to Manchester City, and he struggled during the group stage matches.
Gareth Southgate believes the mood around the English player will be different at the upcoming Euro 2024.
Kane had a year left on his Tottenham contract before leaving the North London club in the just concluded summer transfer.
Bayern Munich got their main target after they saw some of their bids rejected by Tottenham, guaranteeing that Kane’s season won’t be affected by assumption over the striker’s next move, and Southgate wishes that will ensure England’s record goalscorer is not distracted going forward.
Southgate confessed that he’s delighted that Kane’s future is settled for the next few years.
He said: “Potentially that can be a distraction for players. But also it’s good for him that he’s got to go and perform at a new club now. He’s been at one club for so long”.
Southgate contemplated whether Kane would be in rightful reasonable form if he wins the first major trophy of his career with the German champions this season.
He said: “I’m sure for his own belief that would be brilliant, I am not sure he’s going to become a better player but there might be other aspects of the mentality this move will help him with. They’re probably, as you get older, the only bits you can improve upon”.
Southgate said there is no problem with Kane moving away from the momentum and authority of the English Premier League.
He said: “The Bundesliga is a bit different to some of the other leagues we’ve talked about, a bit more transitional”.
“There is an intensity to that. We’ll have all the data on that from training sessions and matches, so we’re able to track that closely”.
Harry Kane’s move to the German Bundesliga has been an exciting one for the former Tottenham Hotspur frontman having scored three goals in three matches.
The 30-year-old dreams of winning his first silverware were demolished by RB Leipzig during his first day at Bayern where they were beaten by 3-0 in the Germain Super Cup final on the 12th of August.
However, Kane and his teammates have put the defeat behind them, and it seems the English player has already settled in Germany.
What’s next for England?
England has a slew of players making their living in other countries with the recent departures of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Fikayo Tomori to AC Milan.
Chris Smalling and Tammy Abraham have both joined Roma in Serie A, with Southgate regularly raising concerns about the perceived lack of intensity in foreign competitions.
The Three Lions will be heading to their Euro 2024 qualifying matches when they face Ukraine on Saturday, 9th of September.
