He added that the forward is back enjoying his football and can help get Spurs “very close” to challenging for the Premier League title.

Bale had during his interview with Sky Sports last month, said he was back at a club he loves.

Barnett, who also insistsed that Bale’s move wasn’t about money said he has got his smile back.

“He loves it [at Tottenham]. The most important thing is he has got a smile back on his face and that he’s enjoying life.

“It had to be somewhere he wanted to go. For him, it wasn’t about money. If he was going to go somewhere it was going to be somewhere that he’d enjoy.

“He’s had offers and it wasn’t right for him. When Tottenham came knocking, it was right.

“He’s had a hard time and now he’s going to enjoy himself. He deserves to be happy. He’s been probably one of Britain’s best ambassadors.”

Gareth Bale on the verge of his second debut for Spurs

Spurs has been impressive even without Bale. They survived a congested Schedule that see them play 6 matches in 18 days, rounding it up with a 6-1 mauling of Manchester United at the Old Trafford.

The have lost only one game so far this season, which came against in-form Everton.

“Win the Premier League, without doubt. Tottenham have got a good squad, a great coach and with Gareth’s help I’m sure they will get very close. You only have to see the results from last week to see that it’s open,” Barnett replied when asked what Bale’s ambitions at Tottenham.

Also sharing the same sentiment is Spur’s former coach, Harry Redknapp. The tactician boldly suggested the club could win the league this season.

“It kills me to say that because I’m an Arsenal supporter, but that’s the reality.

“He has nothing to prove to anybody. He’s won more than anybody else. He was one of the best three or four players in the world and I think he still is. If he succeeds, great, If not, he’s been there and done it. But, I think he will succeed,” Redknapp added.
