Former Tottenham Hotspurs manager, Harry Redknapp believes Gareth Bale can spearhead a title challenge in the Premier League this season with the North London outfit.
The 31-year-old Wales captain returned to Spurs on a season-long loan from Real Madrid. Heis set to face West Ham on Sunday after returning from injury.
Redknapp, who managed Bale at White Hart Lane between 2008 and 2012 says it will be “amazing” to see him back, adding that he could be the difference this year for the team.
Speaking with BBC Radio Wales, the former Portsmouth manager described him as an amazing player, who could contribute a lot to Spurs.
Coach Jose Mourinho, during a press conference, said he is likely to return for his second debut on Sunday when they host West Ham.
In the recent training, Bale looks sharp after reportedly recovering from a knee injury he suffered before re-joining Spurs. His injury forced him out of Wales’ recent internationals.
Spurs currently lie seventh in the Premier League – six points behind leaders Everton, who secure a 2-2 draw against defending champions, Liverpool on Saturday at the Goodison Park.
Amazing front three of Bale, Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min
With Bale now fully fit, many Premier League lovers are looking forward to a front three of Bale, Harry Kasne, and Heung-Min Son. These are three proven players who can punish any defense.
Bale is now coming into a team that is not lacking confidence after Mourinho looked to have rejigged a squad that survived an hectic schedule of 7 games in 18 days.
Throwing Bale into the mix gives the team more offensive power no doubt. Redknapp further stated that Spurs have the squad to compete for the title.
“Gareth coming back will make such a difference to Tottenham, he’s an amazing player.
“With [Harry] Kane, Son [Heung-min] and Bale that’s an amazing front three that could scare any team. I honestly think they’ve got a squad there capable of having a real chance to win the Premier League.
“You’ve got to fancy Liverpool and you’d have to fancy Manchester City, they would have to be favourites. But if anybody else is going to challenge them this year I think it’s Tottenham,” Redknapp added.
Speaking on the deadline day signing, Joe Rodon, who has now linked up with Bale and fellow Wales international Ben Davies at Spurs, Redknapp says the switch to the Premier League is a “big opportunity” for the 22-year-old defender.
His signing is expected to fill up the gap in Tottenham’s backline. Spurs has been short in the back with the departure of Jan Vertonghen, who left for Benfica during the summer window.
“Tottenham is short at the back and being a central defender it’s an area they could certainly improve over the next year or two.
“I speak to some people who work at Tottenham who followed him and monitored him and they speak very highly of him.
“I think there’s every chance he could go to Tottenham and have a great career,” he said.
