New Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has reacted to the rate at which his new teammate and namesake Gabriel Martinelli works on the pitch.
The Gunners strengthened their attacking options by signing Jesus from Manchester City after Mikel Arteta pressed to sign a new No. 9 following a number of significant departures last season.
When the Spanish coach succeeded Unai Emery back in 2019, he received a young Martinelli, and the 21-year-old has grown at an impressive rate.
He has been successful in securing a spot on the first team, and he can play both wide and through the middle. His engine has really pleased Jesus, who refers to him as “an animal” because of his high degree of conditioning and ability to stand out.
During an interview on Podpah podcast, Jesus said: “Woah! Martinelli – he’s an animal. An animal! He never gets tired!” The 25-year-old Brazilian forward went on to say: “[My new teammates] at the club are so hungry, they’re desperate to get this club back to winning a Premier League after 20 years. This kind of challenge excites me a lot to be here.”

Martinelli started 26 of his 36 games last season and scored 11 goals. He will now be supported in the attack by Gabriel Jesus who wasn’t always a starter at City but routinely scored significant goals for the club. Jesus recently won his fourth league championship, but the addition of Erling Haaland was always going to cut down on his playing time.
As a result, he decided to reunite with Arteta, Guardiola’s former assistant coach at the Etihad. The Brazilian attributed a significant reason for his choice to leave Etihad Stadium to his desire to play every single week. According to the Brazilian, he wanted a new challenge, that’s why he came to Arsenal. He revealed that his new teammates received him very well.
Gabriel Jesus added that he’s two or three years older than most players but they look at him as a very experienced player and he likes to be a role model to other players.
The Brazilian has already started his new life with very good form as he has constantly scored in their pre-season games. Gabriel Jesus will be looking to have an amazing season and maybe help Arsenal to win a major trophy for the first time in many years.
Gabriel Jesus is expected to be among the highest paid players at Arsenal as he will earn up to £264,000 ($324,000) per week. While Gabriel Martinelli earns around £41,000 per week as an Arsenal player.
Jesus is not the only player to join Arsenal from Man City this summer as the Gunners have reached an agreement to sign City’s defender Oleksandr Zinchenko.
