Frenkie de Jong recently left the Netherlands camp and returned to Barcelona after picking up an injury while on international break according to an update from the Dutch FA official website.
The 25-year-old, who hasn’t seen much action for Barça this year, started Wednesday night’s UEFA Nations League match between the Oranje and Poland.
However, manager Louis van Gaal substituted him at halftime, explaining after the game that it was a precautionary move. He also insisted that de Jong would be able to play in the upcoming encounter against Belgium.
However, De Jong has returned to Barcelona after suffering a thigh injury, according to the Dutch national team.
A statement from the Dutch team read: “Frenkie de Jong, who did not return to the field after the break in the duel with Poland, also goes home. He also has problems with his thigh.”
