Fred scored the third goal for Manchester United in their 4-2 victory over Leeds after coming off the bench surpassing Lionel Messi this season.
The Brazilian was used as a second-half substitute for Paul Pogba in order to brighten up Manchester United’s midfield.
The goal was certainly not expected by Ralf Rangnick, but Fred was happy to oblige after being set up by Jadon Sancho in the first half of the game.
Fred isn’t a prolific scorer; this was only his eighth goal in a Manchester United shirt in his whole career.
In addition to scoring on the first day of the season against Leeds, he also netted the winning goal against Crystal Palace in Ralf Rangnick’s debut as manager.

More than Lionel Messi
A personal high of three goals in a United shirt for Fred, but a very nondescript record for the rest of the midfielders on the field.
And yet, incredibly, Fred’s tally of three league goals this season is one more than Lionel Messi has scored in Ligue 1 for Paris Saint-Germain this entire season.
Messi has scored only two league goals in 15 appearances for PSG this season. A surprisingly poor performance for the Argentine, who many anticipated to go on and smash new world records in his home country.
The fact that Messi has eight assists to Fred’s three in the league must be highlighted, but the United midfielder is a match for Messi when it comes to scoring goals, and it is completely strange that the two should be so close in the first place.
Messi also has six other goals in various tournaments, bringing his total number of goals scored to eight. He would have had nine if he hadn’t missed a penalty kick in the Champions League against Real Madrid the other day.
The fact that he has failed to score in the league is a source of frustration for him. Fred, on the other hand, continues to outperform expectations every time he discovers the internet, which is wonderful to witness.
