Chelsea lost their first match to Wolverhampton Wanderers upon Frank Lampard’s return to the club as a caretaker manager.

Matheus Nunes scored a screamer to give Wolverhampton Wanderers a well-deserved victory.

Chelsea tried all they could to score a goal, but it proved abortive as Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Jose Sa didn’t have much to do.

How Wolves Defeated Chelsea in The Premier League

Chelsea were almost ahead in the second minute of the match when Reece James hit a low ball towards the Wolves goal, but former Chelsea striker Diego Costa stuck out his left leg to stop the ball from going in.

A few minutes after that, Chelsea failed to effectively clear the corner, which landed on Lemina’s path. The midfielder hit the ball immediately, but it deflected wide.

The first goal came on Wolves’ path, with Nunes scoring one of the goals of the season against Chelsea with Kepa Arrizabalaga having no chance to stop the ball.

Even before the goal, Chelsea had been poor going forward, and the Wolves goal came as no surprise with the club showing high intensity and good direction.

Wolves never seem to be satisfied with the first goal, as they got the second attempt on goal in the 37th minute with an excellent hit from Costa, but Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa was there to save the danger.

Chelsea got a shot off in the 42nd minute, but the effort was easily saved by Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa, who didn’t break a sweat saving Joao Felix’s shot.

Earlier in the second half, Chelsea got another chance to get the equalizer when Kai Havertz was too slow to connect with the ball at the edge of the post.

A few minutes after Chelsea’s chance, they turned on the referee for a penalty against Wolves after Felix claimed his ball hit Nunes, but after a check, it showed clearly that the ball hit Nunes’ side.

Towards the end of the match, the club continued to show there were no improvements in the style of play and no hunger to win games.

This is Frank Lampard’s first game in charge, and there is still hope that he will change the fortunes of the team.
