Frank Lampard is set to be appointed for a second spell by Chelsea as the club’s interim coach until the end of the season.

According to reports, Lampard is believed to be in charge of the Blue’s next match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, 8th of April, 2023.

The 44-year-old was in attendance at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, 4th of April, 2023, only 48 hours after Graham Potter was fired, to watch Chelsea’s goalless draw against Liverpool.

Frank Lampard led Chelsea to fourth position in the English Premier League and the FA Cup final during his first season in charge of the club.

But he was dismissed midway through his second season and the Blues went on to win the UEFA Champions League season under the former manager Thomas Tuchel.

In January 2021, Chelsea’s all-time leading scorer Lampard was fired from his position as manager at Stamford Bridge.

He took over at Everton and helped keep the Toffees in the Premier League last season, but less than a year later, in January, he was sacked.

Chelsea is considering using Lampard as a possible caretaker after meeting with former Barcelona and Spain manager Luis Enrique in London to discuss the managerial position.

However, Julian Nagelsmann, who was fired by Bayern Munich last month, and Luis Enrique, who traveled to London on Wednesday for what sources characterized as fruitful discussions about the role, have both been in touch with the club.

Mauricio Pochettino, the former manager of Tottenham, was also rumored to be a candidate, but as of Wednesday, no contact had been made with the 51-year-old.

Co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart are in charge of the hiring process.

They told Potter, ex-Chelsea coach in person at the team’s Cobham training facility that the board had unanimously decided to terminate his employment, which they did after the English manager failed to secure a victory against Aston Villa on Saturday, 1st of April, 2023.

Lampard’s availability allows Chelsea the freedom to give one of their chosen long-term possibilities some time to decide.

On the other hand, Luis Enrique reportedly wants Chelsea’s job after the Spaniard held talks with the club owner Todd Boehly in London.

Enrique quit his position as Spanish national team manager and intended to take some time off after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

But, interest from Chelsea, who fired Graham Potter on Sunday, caused him to reconsider his decision.

According to insiders, Enrique is keen to take the job and work in the Premier League.
