The manager of Chelsea football club Frank Lampard has insisted that Liverpool football club and Manchester City are better positioned to win the Premier League title this season.
Lampard stated this while reacting to a comment credited to Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp. The coach of the reigning Premier League champions said Chelsea are the favorites to win this season’s Premier League title because they have the biggest squad in the league and some of the best players who are playing well together.
The German coach was referring to the fact that Frank Lampard spent over £220 million to bring in some of the best young legs in Europe to rebuild the Chelsea squad that he started coaching before the commencement of the 2019-2020 season.
At first, the squad struggled to play well together until in the last 9 games which they are yet to lose any match. This has made Chelsea the team in the league with the longest unbeaten run.
Yet, Frank Lampard would not want any of his colleagues in the league to put extra pressure on him. Hence, he has transferred the pressure to Manchester City’s coach Pep Guardiola and Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp.
The English tactician believes that the two coaches have the most experienced and compact teams in the league which could win the league title ahead of Chelsea.
Lampard noted that his squad is made up of young players and players that are still new in Premier League football. While a club like Liverpool have shown how good they are by winning games and remaining second behind Tottenham Hotspur with just goals difference even though most of Liverpool’s best players are out with different degrees of injuries.
Frank Lampard said: “Liverpool and Manchester City seem to be pretty much everyone’s favorites and rightly so with the form they have had over the past three or four years and how they have built up their squads.
“Even with injuries, you look at the squad Liverpool put out last night with players missing and it’s a very good side. Tottenham and Manchester United are in the frame too.
“It’s his opinion and he is entitled to it but I think it’s clear where we are at – we are in good form but we have players who have just come into this league or younger players.
“Some teams like Liverpool and City have had success with very established Premier League players who have been performing to a high standard for several years.
“We are trying to get there and reach that and that is going to take lots of consistency over the coming months.”
