France vs Polish: Kylian Mbappe defied all odds after breaking Cristiano Ronaldo and Pele’s World Cup goals record after scoring two goals against Poland to get the defending champions to the quarterfinals of the World Cup in Qatar.

Olivier Giroud scored late in the first half to become the all time French top scorer with 52 goals surpassing French legend Thierry Henry and Kylian Mbappe scored twice in the second half to complete the victory.

In the beginning of the second half, Giroud found the back of the net with a beautiful bicycle kick, but it was ruled out as a foul on Wojciech Szczesny.

Ousmane Dembele and Kylian Mbappe worked spectacularly to get into the Poland box. Mbappe’s intelligence and experience showed why he is a world-class player before the second goal that sent France to the quarterfinals.

For the third goal, Marcus Thuram outraced Cash on the wing and teed up Mbappe. After using a touch to gain freedom, the 23-year-old curled the ball into the far top corner.

After Kamil Grosicki’s cross struck Dayot Upamecano’s arm in close proximity, Lloris saved Lewandowski’s penalty, but he had moved a foot off his line. Lewandowski succeeded on his second try.

In what looks like the final match for Robert Lewandowski in the World Cup, the Barcelona striker scored a consolidation penalty. He did that with a smile on his face.

The game shows us that France has its share of impatience. Antoine Griezmann had his moments feeding the forwards in his new withdrawn role, but on a pitch that hasn’t held up well after a few games, it was occasionally difficult.

To Cash’s credit, he continued the fight against Mbappe who was awarded the man of the match after providing an assist and two goals.

There was a lot of joy in the French camp as they were looking like favorites to become the second country to win a back-to-back World Cup since Brazil did it in 1958 and 1962.
