Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano has had a fantastic season that caught the attention of many top European clubs and Manchester United is one of them.
Since his move to Leipzig from their sister club, RB Salzburg, the 21-year-old has proven to be a good buy and he has become an integral part of the team. So, such a player is of high value to the Bundesliga side.
In this terrain, the club knows that it will eventually lose the French center back, but it will be glad to rake in a huge amount on the 21-year-old from whichever club ask for his service.
This has made former Bundesliga star Jan Aage Fjortoft say that Manchester United, who is among the top clubs wanting the defender would need to offer over €65m to get him.
United had already spent about €45 on former Ajax midfielder, Donny van de Beek. Since they are unable to get their prime target, Jadon Sancho who is valued at €100m by Borussia Dortmund, the Red Devils might decide to share the money in between the two transfers. According to Fjortof, such a huge amount would convince RB Leipzig to sell Upamecano this summer.
Dayot Upamecano is the most coveted center back at the moment
France’s national team coach, Didier Deschamp had to invite the talented lad for his first international senior call up for the upcoming international games, judging from his good performance in the recently concluded season. The 21-year-old led the defense for Leipzig and took them to the last four of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history with just 11 years in top-flight football.
Upemecano is now a star figure in the RB Leipzig defence, making him to be one of the most coveted center-backs in Europe.
Although many clubs want him this summer, he might continue at RB Leipzig for another season after recently signing a new contract in July. But Man United need to show determination to lure Upamecano to Old Trafford.
Fjortoft, who stated RB Leipzig is not ready to sell the defender, said the German club’s stance could change if they were to receive a bid in excess of €65m from Manchester United, or any of his suitors.
“RB Leipzig don’t want to let him [Upamecano] or any other of their established players leave.
“Their position could change if they get a bid of ‘more than’ €65m.“ Fjortoft wrote on Twitter.
So, we will al wait and see if the Red Devils would be willing to fork out €65m for the signature of Upamecano from RB Leipzig.
