Former Brighton Midfielder Enock Nwepu Has Been Discharged From Hospital

    Former Brighton and Zambia International midfielder Enock Mwepu has been discharged from a specialist heart hospital in Zambia after he was admitted following his ailing heart condition.

    The ex-Zambia midfielder who retired at the early age of 24 fell sick on a family visit to his native country on Sunday, January 15, and has now been discharged from National Hearts Hospital in Zambia after a four-day admission for precautionary checks.

    The incident happened while the retired midfielder was driving towards Kabangwe, a small city on the outskirts of Lusaka, in Zambia, and his car was seen swerving on a major road.

    He eventually parked the car, and managed to come out of the vehicle, before he fell.

    Meanwhile, the 25-year-old former Brighton midfielder Mwepu was earlier diagnosed with a life-threatening heart condition in October last year, forcing him to retire from football at the age of 24.

    Mwepu was diagnosed with a hereditary heart condition that hindered him from proceeding as an elite footballer.

    According to reports, the 25-year-old fell ill while on a flight to play with his Chipolopolo teammates in September during an international break.

    He was at his home country’s hospital for some time before returning to England to undergo further cardiac tests which indicated that he was suffering from a hereditary cardiac condition and was advised to stop playing football.

    Earlier today, Zambia Health Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Professor Lackson Kasonka confirmed the news that the 25-year-old is now at home recuperating.

    Prof. Kasonka said: “I can confirm that Enoch Mwepu was discharged from the Lusaka Heart Hospital this morning, he will continue his recuperation from home.”

    However, doctors at the National Heart Hospital in Lusaka, the capital city of Zambia revealed that the ex-Brighton star and now Brighton’s development academy coach Mwepu is expected to be back at the hospital for another check-up next week Wednesday to determine the state of his recovery and advise him on his next steps.

    Enock Mwepu was born on the 1st of January 1998.

    The 25-year-old is a Zambian former professional footballer who played as a midfielder.

    Mwepu represented and captained the Zambia national team.

    Having begun his football career in his native Zambia, Mwepu signed for Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg in 2017.

    Thereafter, he moved to join the Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion in 2021.

    Mwepu joined Brighton from Austrian side RB Salzburg in the 2021 season and made 23 appearances for Zambia’s senior national team, seeing the back of the net six times.

    What’s next for Enoch Mwepu?

    Following his sudden retirement from football, Mwepu has moved into coaching and was appointed the coach of the Brighton and Hove Under-9 team in early January.
