Reacting to the interests milling around him and reports of a summer exit from BayArena, the prolific German attacking midfielder, speaking while on international duty with Germany, said he is focused on the national team and would return to his plans with Bayer Leverkusen after the break.
The 20-year-old added a layer of intrigue to his statement, saying he has his plans irrespective of what his club manager Xavi Alonso would do.
“My focus these days is on the national team. And after that, I still have a lot of plans with Bayer Leverkusen”.
“I don’t know what Xabi Alonso will do but my plan is clear”, told @derspiegel.
It is still unclear what Wirtz will make of his future with Bayer Leverkusen. However, in March 2024, the German footballing sensation had calmed nerves amidst the uncertainties surrounding his future at Bay Arena.
He had maintained that he would see through the remaining three years of his contract despite interests from bigger European clubs.
