Following Werder Bremen’s eighth league loss against Hoffenheim,4-0, club manager Florian Kohfeldt has said the team has not been able to pick some lessons or positives from the match.

On Sunday evening, the River Islanders were trashed by their counterparts away from home in a sided four thriller encounter. Ihlas Bebou broke the deadlock for Sebastian Hoeneb’s side in the 26th minute of the game.

Eighteen minutes later, Christoph Baumgartner doubled the lead, as Mu’nas Dabbur added to Bremen’s headache to make it 3-0. Georgini Rutter’s strike past Jiri Pavlenka giving the eleventh placed side a maximum of three points.

Bremen has won a match in the last five outings in the German topflight and they are placed twelve, one point behind their recent opponents. They are fourteen points behind Eintracht Frankfurt– their next opponent who is in the fourth position.

Florian Kohfeldt said the team was not committed to putting a challenge against Hoffenheim, saying the whole squad is responsible for the loss
“There are no positives from the game today, that’s quite clear. It’s a horrible day for all of us. Individually and as a team, we were way off the pace. The goals we conceded were far too easy, especially the first three, and we simply weren’t committed enough.” He said on the club website
“It was a collective failure and I include myself in that. As a team, we had a nightmare today.”

Bremen defender, Theodore Gebre Selassie said the team lacked substance, saying the huge loss has not happened to them in a long time. Selassie the team had some chances at the first 45 minutes of the game but did not turn to goal for the side.

“We lacked all the quality that we have shown over the past few weeks today. We gifted them the first two goals and that meant that the game was out of reach for us straight away”

“It’s something that hasn’t happened to us so far this season and it was exactly what Hoffenheim needed. After the break, we conceded a third very quickly, and then the game was all but done. We had some decent opportunities in the first half which we had to take advantage of but didn’t. It’s a clear and deserved defeat.”

Omer Toprak, who is a member of the team, said the club did not offer anything in the match, saying the team is generally responsible for the loss.

“We didn’t offer anything today. We brought nothing both in footballing terms and in terms of physicality. We gave the ball away too easily, didn’t win enough duels, and didn’t press well. No one can claim to have played well today and as defenders, we’re a part of that of course.”

Florian Kohfeldt said the team has been managing to show positive reactions to bad performances. He also said the team must very careful when they face Frankfurt next Friday.
“Today was a step backward, that’s for sure. But we have always managed to show a positive reaction to bad performances so far this season, for example against Hertha on the first day and against Union earlier this year.” He said
“Now what we have to do is repeat that reaction. We are playing a top, top team on Friday. We have to be very careful at this stage even though we are on target in terms of points. We still need to keep picking them up.”
