Serie A side Fiorentina are set to bring Argentine and Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo to Italy possibly in Januray or next summer.
Rojo joined the Red Devils in 2014 for £16million from Sporting Lisbon in Portugal but has been hampered by various injuries since his move to the Premier League side. The Argentine has also dropped down the pecking order at Old Trafford with manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer prefering the combination of Victor Linderlof and Harry Maguire. Also, he is behind the likes of Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe in the squad.
The 29-year-old, who is said to be worth around £8million, has featured majorly in the Europa League this season. Rojo played four times in Europe, twice in the League Cup, and just three times in the Premier League, with two of those appearances coming from the bench.
However, accordig to reports in Italy, Fiorentina’s Director of Sport Daniele Prade is reportedly weighing up an option to get Rojo next summer or possibly bid for him in January. The Italian side are set to boost their defensive option with signing of the Argentine who has also lost his place in the national team.
United are also looking to put Nemanja Matic up for sale, who has been in a similar situation to Rojo this season. The midfielder has struggled with injuries, but has also been left out of the team even when fit.
The 31-year-old’s contract is up at the end of the season, but United are keen to get a fee for him in January. Matic is reportedly set to leave the club and reunite with ex-teammates Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez at Inter Milan.
He played with both players under Jose Mourinho and current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before they were offloaded during the summer transfer window. Also, the Serbian midfielder has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford this season.
A move to San Siro in the New Year will also see Matic work his former boss Antonio Conte. The midfielder worked with the Italian coach during the pair’s time at Chelsea.
The Red Devils have an option to give the 31-year-old a short term deal until the end of next season. Recall that Ashely Young and Juan Mata were given the same deal last season. However, United could sell the player if Inter offer a substantial fee for him.
The Serbian has struggled with injury this season and has featured in only seven games in the Premier League and Europa League. During his time out, Scott McTominay and Fred have been in superb form and have been favoured to be Solskjaer central midfield pairing.
