FIFA is looking into how Salt Bae, a famous chef, and a few other persons were able to get “undue access” to the field during the World Cup final in Qatar.

Following Argentina’s victory over France, Salt Bae, a Turkish chef whose real name is Nusret Gokce, was photographed holding and kissing the World Cup trophy.

According to FIFA regulations, only “extremely select” individuals—including champions of the competition, FIFA officials, and heads of state—are permitted to hold the trophy.

A FIFA spokesperson told BBC Sport in a statement: “Following a review, FIFA has been determining how people obtained unauthorized access to the pitch following the closing ceremony at Lusail stadium on December 18.”

“The appropriate internal action will be taken.”

After his method for seasoning and cooking meat turned into an online meme in 2017, Salt Bae, who operates a chain of upscale steakhouses, gained notoriety.

Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and David Beckham are just a few of the current and former football players that have dined at Salt Bae’s establishments.

He uploaded a video of himself in November, during the World Cup, hugging FIFA President Gianni Infantino. They were then seen together in the VIP section of a game with Brazilian icons Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, and Cafu.

In the frantic moments following Argentina’s victory, when the chef tried to attract Messi’s attention, he seemed to ignore Salt Bae.

    Who is Salt bae?

Nusret Gökçe, often known as Salt Bae, is a Turkish butcher, chef, food performer, and restaurant. In January 2017, his method for seasoning and cooking meat went viral on the internet.

He is the owner of the upscale steakhouse brand Nusr-Et. He has Nusr-Et offices in the United States, United Kingdom, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Greece, the United Arab Emirates, and Turkey as of 2021.

His name and the Turkish word for meat, “Et,” were combined to create the name of his chain of restaurants.

Nusret Gökçe was born to a Kurdish family in Erzurum. Faik, his father, worked as a miner.

He had to drop out of school in the sixth grade (aged 11–12) because of the family’s financial situation in order to work as an apprentice butcher in Istanbul’s Kadköy neighborhood.

    What Does Salt Bae Do?

Between 2007 and 2010, Gökçe traveled to a number of nations, including Argentina and the United States, where he gained expertise as a cook and a restaurateur by working for bono at local restaurants.

In 2010, following his return to Turkey, Gökçe built his first restaurant, and in 2014, he opened a second one in Dubai.

He gained greater notoriety as Salt Bae in January 2017 as a result of a number of popular Internet memes and films that depict him “suavely” slicing meat and sprinkling salt, including “Ottoman Steak,” which was shared on the Twitter account of his business.

He earned the nickname “Salt Bae” for his unusual method of salting food—dropping it from his fingertips to his forearm and then onto the dish—after the Instagram post received 10 million views.

As a result of the post’s viral exposure, Gökçe’s fame has significantly increased, and he has worked with numerous international politicians and celebrities.

    What Was Said by FIFA?

“The original FIFA World Cup Trophy can only be touched and held by a very select group of people, which includes former winners of the FIFA World Cup and heads of state,” FIFA’s rules state. Now, three days after the incident, an investigation into it all has begun.

“Following a review, FIFA has been establishing how individuals gained undue access to the pitch after the closing ceremony at Lusail stadium on 18 December,” a FIFA response reads. “The appropriate internal action will be taken.”

Because of the Argentina vs. France 2022 FIFA World Cup Final, Gökçe once again came under fire online after he joined the Argentine players on the pitch following the game and touched the trophy, a gesture only reserved for champions and leaders of state.
