The controversial tweets are still going viral around the world even after they were swiftly deleted by FIFA and left Ronaldo fans infuriated.

Having been dropped by Portugal during their two knockout matches in Qatar and the abrupt exit from Manchester United in acrimonious circumstances, it seems as though Ronaldo has been faced with the greatest hardships ever in his career.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner endured a disappointing tournament in Qatar World Cup, scoring just one goal from the penalty spot before being dropped to the bench.

However, Ronaldo’s principal rival Lionel Messi, then achieved what neither of the two stars had done before.

Lionel Messi scored seven goals and assisted three crucial goals on the way to winning the World Cup and the Golden Ball.

This has, however, led to many footballers all over the world as well as several football fans lauding the seven-time Ballon d’Or holder and World Cup winner Messi as the undisputed ‘greatest of all time’ (GOAT).

The 35-year-old’s World Cup exploits effectively ended the GOAT debate for many football fans, and Fifa’s official World Cup Twitter account tweeted an agreement to that effect.

They wrote: “The GOAT debate is settled. The ultimate prize is now part of the collection.”

“On the day @Argentina won their third #FIFAWorldCup, Leo Messi is your @Budweiser Player of the Match.”

However, the tweets seemed to annoy some Ronaldo fans and are still generating uproar even though FIFA has deleted them.

One of the infuriated fans wrote: “A professional account of the biggest football organisation in the world. It has always been Ronaldo vs the rigged system.”

    Another huffed: “Very unprofessional.”
While a third person groaned: “we know they rigged it all for Messi to win”.

After realising they have caused trouble with the tweet, Fifa deleted it and posted another one with Ronaldo which further worsen the circumstance.

Fifa posted a picture of Ronaldo smiling and raising his thumb, with the caption: “Thumbs up if you enjoyed the #FIFAWorldCup.”

Some fans, most likely Ronaldo’s ardent fans took the tweet to be insulting to the 37-year-old Portugal skipper who had a miserable tournament.

One wrote: “Fifa mocking Ronaldo. They have now deleted this tweet.”

Another bizarrely claimed: “The favoritism displayed by Fifa in that now-deleted tweet further corroborates our assumption of a rigged system against Ronaldo all along.”

Certainly, Cristiano Ronaldo’s World Cup tournament did not end well.

Portugal was ousted from the tournament in the quarter-final stage when they lost 1-0 to Morocco.

Ronaldo was brought on in the 51st minute but was unable to make any significant impact whatsoever.
