FIFA backed the proposed $6 billion European Premier League

    World football governing body, FIFA has reportedly backed the proposed European Premier League which would worth $6 billion if the proposal becomes a reality.

    The proposed league will comprise of top European clubs from the top leagues in the continent. Participates in the league are expected to come from Spanish La Liga, French Ligue 1, the English Premier League, German Bundesliga, and Italian Serie A.

    The organizers of the league with the backing of Fifa have already approached the top clubs which will be used as founding members of the league. Some of the clubs that have been approached in Spain include Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid. In Italy clubs like Juventus, Inter Milan, and AC Milan have been called upon.

    In France, Paris Saint Germain and Marseille have been notified. While in Germany Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have been invited. And in the Premier League, Manchester United and Liverpool have been called upon.

    There are also reports that Chelsea football club, Manchester City, Tottenham, and Arsenal are part of the Premier League clubs that have been approached to sign up for the European Premier League. However, the Premier League has only 5 slots to fill.

    As of the time of publishing this report, no Premier League club has officially signed up for the proposed European Premier League. However, reports say talks involving Manchester United and Liverpool have reached an advanced stage.

    Format of the Proposed European Premier League

    Though the organizers of the proposed European Premier League are yet to conclude on the list of clubs that will make up the first edition of the league, the proposed league will consist of 18 clubs.

    Just like the regular leagues, the matches will be played in the home and away format during the regular European season. At the end of the season, the top team on the European Premier League table will play a mini-tournament to determine the overall champions of the league.

    The $6 billion will be used to finance the league throughout the season. And the prize money is said to be 100 of million of dollars. According to reports, the funding for the proposed league was gotten from Wall Street bank JP Morgan.

    Though it is not fully official, the proposed European Premier League is likely to commence in 2022. It is expected to rival the UEFA Champions League and it is described as one of the biggest revolutions in the world of club football.

    If the ongoing plan does not collapse since details of the proposed league have been leaked, the organizers of the league are expected to officially announce the new league before December 2020.
